Subst@nce presents....Mark Lowry Live @ Alpha 12/11/09November 21, 2009 11:23 PM PST
Hour 1 of Mark's recent 4 deck set for Subst@nce @ Alpha, Dubai. Recorded Live!!!!!! Subst@nce presents.... Mark LowryNovember 01, 2009 06:41 AM PST
In anticipation of Mark's eagerly awaited debut for Subst@nce in Dubai we are proud to share with you a mix that Mark recorded for us back in September. Proving how adept Mark is behind the decks this mix groove's in all the right places, flowing with a knowledge of how to programme a mix to perfection. A skill that has been refined over the years of being a long standing resident at one of the most globally influential club nights there is. You don’t get to be resident at one of the best loved and longest running nights in the world for no reason…..If you love REAL HOUSE MUSIC, DO NOT MISS THIS!! In this age of specialized formats and strict genre guidelines among DJ's and producers, what sets Mark apart from his peers is his ability to spin everything from deep house, techno, disco and classics in a set, with a determination of it all making sense. While most DJ's are one-note musicians sticking to a single subgenre of music, one of Shindig!s longest standing residents, Mark Lowry is receiving considerable plaudits for his production talents and DJ skills overlooking the dance floor. Mark laid the foundations of his music career by becoming resident of one of the UK!s Longest and most respected club nights Shindig, almost 8 years ago and while I sit and struggle to think of a world class DJ he hasn!t played along side, Mark will be putting into action another project to put the majority of today!s short sighted “myspace producers” to shame.
Mark has dabbled in deep house, progressive and techno along the way and in the process built up a impressive CV; Past and present studio work covering all angles and including non-dance related teaching projects are a welcome escape and development platform for Mark!s sound, which ranges from club oriented sounds, to soul infected grooves; all seemingly operating on a common notion of melody. In 2008, Mark took his Shindig relationship even further collaborating with Lexicon Avenue!s Scott Bradford and Mark Armstrong under the alias S-Low & Damaged People.

When he was based in Bahrain , Salah could be found teaming up with international DJs at various venues, and was the brains behindb and resident Dj at the successful Techfui nights that ran for over three years and featured local and international Djs , the likes of Peace Division, Ame and Derrick May. Now based in Dubai, Salah is bringing his trademarkTechfui sound to the events around the city. He was our first guest artist at Subst@nce when we were based at The Apartment and rocked the house at two of the now infamous Villa parties. He will also be spinning for us at a very special event we have planned for mid October, and will undoubtedly join our resident, Steve Darley on the decks at Subst@nce at some point in the future when we have moved to our new venue. Spread over two mixes Salah blends a sumptuous selection of deep & tech house beats, moving from the soulful and slightly melancholy Mix One, through to a more uptempo pumping middle of the night groove in Mix Two. Enjoy. Subst@nce presents.... Salah Sadeq -Summer Tears & Joy Part 1October 01, 2009 07:18 AM PDT
Born and raised in Bahrain, Dj Salah Sadeq's ability to get a serious party going puts him up there with the best in the business. Using skills that he developed from a very young age spinning at small venues and house parties, he has gradually built a resume that has seen him spin across many continents. Close to home, he has played alongside a myriad of guest artists in Dubai, including Laurent Garnier, Peace Division, Josh Wink and Lexicon Avenue (at their Shindig parties). He gigs in Amsterdam frequently, where he has featured at TWSTD and played live sets on Radio Activity’s (www.radio-activity.nl), Danzolectro segment as well as being a featured guest on electronation’s (www.electronation.nl) electronation radio. Salah has featured at several major events in the Netherlands, including the Queen’s Day Playground parties (2004 + 2005), studio 80 and Club More in Amsterdam, as well as Member’s Only in Utrecht in 2004. So....here is his latest offering: "Summer tears & Joy '09". Subst@nce resi Steve Darley drops Vol 2, spreading more of the soundtrack you are likely to hear at our monthly parties in Dubai. Taking more of a straight up house direction than the deep tech route of Vol 1, there is funk aplenty in this latest mix. These are the tunes that are destroying the Subst@nce dancefloor at present. Feat tracks and remixes from Johnny D, Deep Dish, BarBQ, Kevin Yost, Soul Minority, Julien Chaptel, Office Gossip, Catz 'n Dogz, Lauhaus, Andre Crom, Sebastian Davidson and Terry Lee Brown Jnr. Subst@nce presents....Alex NiggemannAugust 26, 2009 10:00 AM PDT
Dropping straight back in with our next dj mix, Subst@nce proudly presents red hot German dj/producer Alex Niggemann. Smashing dancefloors everywhere he goes, Alex fuses house melodies and techno loops to devastating effect. Already blowing up in 2009, watch him fly in 2010. Born in Düsseldorf, Germany in 1984, Alex noticed very early on that playing the piano (which he had done passionately for many years) was not the route he would take to make it in the music biz. Since he was a teenager, he was looking for new ways to express himself through music. Initially influenced by his brother´s taste he visited his first techno party, life has never been the same since.
After his high-school graduation in 2005 he moved to Berlin to study audio engineering and refine his knowledge in music production. After some successful networking further DJ appearances in clubs all over Germany followed, this time under his real name Alex Niggemann. Soon, his first commercial release, a remix of Booka Shade's awesome 'Darko'

About Subst@nceWelcome to the SUBST@NCE podcast page. We aim to bring to you on a regular basis a collection of music and dj mixes that represent a little part of the Subst@nce sound and what you are likely to hear should you attend one of our events in Dubai, UAE. Subst@nce is brought to you by Steve Darley & James Hastings and was created due to a lack of consistent nights in Dubai that offered up uncomprimising, quality music. Frustrated by a scene that concerned itself to much with style, and produced little substance, the idea was born to start throwing parties that were raw in essence, a throw back to the mentality of the early acid house scene, but that showcased contemporary and fresh music for discerning ears. A night where the importance of the music and the vibe are paramount, and VIP's and table service are non-existent (unique for Dubai). Bringing together local (and the occasional international) dj's who are passionate about the music and the crowd, a soundtrack that consist's of the best that the world's of proper house & techno have to offer, and attracting real people who just want to have a f**king good party is the Subst@nce way...and the movement has well and truly begun.
