Subst@nce presents.... Mark Lowry

In anticipation of Mark's eagerly awaited debut for Subst@nce in Dubai we are proud to share with you a mix that Mark recorded for us back in September. Proving how adept Mark is behind the decks this mix groove's in all the right places, flowing with a knowledge of how to programme a mix to perfection. A skill that has been refined over the years of being a long standing resident at one of the most globally influential club nights there is. You don’t get to be resident at one of the best loved and longest running nights in the world for no reason…..If you love REAL HOUSE MUSIC, DO NOT MISS THIS!!

In this age of specialized formats and strict genre guidelines among DJ's and producers, what sets Mark apart from his peers is his ability to spin everything from deep house, techno, disco and classics in a set, with a determination of it all making sense. While most DJ's are one-note musicians sticking to a single subgenre of music, one of Shindig!s longest standing residents, Mark Lowry is receiving considerable plaudits for his production talents and DJ skills overlooking the dance floor. Mark laid the foundations of his music career by becoming resident of one of the UK!s Longest and most respected club nights Shindig, almost 8 years ago and while I sit and struggle to think of a world class DJ he hasn!t played along side, Mark will be putting into action another project to put the majority of today!s short sighted “myspace producers” to shame.

Easily surpassing over a decade and a half of active service as one of the North East!s most successful and notably humble DJ!s and producers of electronic music, Mark!s dedication towards production values has landed him gigs and invites up and down the UK at some of the countries best clubs including Turnmills, The End and Global Gathering Festival. Mention the word “Resident” though, amongst Newcastle!s proud cobbled alleys of clubbing and Mark!s reputation will most certainly come up in conversation. Not one to simply fadeinto the background as part of the furniture only to reappear on a Saturday night on cue, Marks versatility to deliver to Shindig!s fiercely loyal crowd with quality house music at night is backed up by the exceptional standard of production coming out of his studio by
day.

Mark has dabbled in deep house, progressive and techno along the way and in the process built up a impressive CV; Past and present studio work covering all angles and including non-dance related teaching projects are a welcome escape and development platform for Mark!s sound, which ranges from club oriented sounds, to soul infected grooves; all seemingly operating on a common notion of melody. In 2008, Mark took his Shindig relationship even further collaborating with Lexicon Avenue!s Scott Bradford and Mark Armstrong under the alias S-Low & Damaged People.

Collaborations and accompanied remix projects, on labels such as UrbanTorque, Saw (Mardel), Movim (Airgroove) and Positiva, have not only gained plenty of support from underground DJ!s, but represent another chapter and slice of Mark!s output, whilst subsequently raising his profile as a name always on the rise. In particular re-workings of Pete Moss and Scope giving a outlook and passion for music, not tethered by style but of consistently layered deep house, never forgetting the important and often overlooked drench of musicality. With no shortage or ideas or goals, Mark enters 2009 with even more
success in his sights.

Subst@nce presents....Alex Niggemann

Dropping straight back in with our next dj mix, Subst@nce proudly presents red hot German dj/producer Alex Niggemann. Smashing dancefloors everywhere he goes, Alex fuses house melodies and techno loops to devastating effect. Already blowing up in 2009, watch him fly in 2010.

Born in Düsseldorf, Germany in 1984, Alex noticed very early on that playing the piano (which he had done passionately for many years) was not the route he would take to make it in the music biz. Since he was a teenager, he was looking for new ways to express himself through music. Initially influenced by his brother´s taste he visited his first techno party, life has never been the same since.

At the tender age of 16 he knew which direction his future would take. He acquired his first turntables and mixer then converted his room into a provisional DJ studio. Very soon he started down the path of electronic music production. While this transformation was taking place he DJ'd under different aliases in several clubs in Düsseldorf and the surrounding area.

After his high-school graduation in 2005 he moved to Berlin to study audio engineering and refine his knowledge in music production. After some successful networking further DJ appearances in clubs all over Germany followed, this time under his real name Alex Niggemann. Soon, his first commercial release, a remix of Booka Shade's awesome 'Darko'
(Get Physical Music 2006) was subsequently released to great acclaim.

After completion of his studies in 2007 he concentrated on his music full time. In 2008, he had releases on labels such as Meerestief, Micro.fon and Moonpool, to name just a few. By the middle of 2008 he was snapped up by 'Supernature Records' the label run by British duo 'Audiofly'. His Black Rose EP was released in the spring of 2009 with more in the pipeline.
Further releases on 'Be Chosen' and Nick Curly's '8-bit' label will follow in 2009. Also remixes for Supernature and Thomas Schumacher, EPs for Supernature, 8bit and 2020Vision Recordings are fixed for the second half of 2009.
